 No.837699

I'm looking at the new OW stuff and I'm… uncertain.
For all the heroes I play, the only things I might want are some sprays and Torb's highlight intro.
Young Torb and Young Rein are cool but I wouldn't spend coins on them.
The best skins went to characters I don't play - Mercy and Tracer

 No.837700

>>837699
Mercy is really naisu, and I don't have a skin I really love for her yet. That said she's my least played hero.

Young Torb is great just because he has his hand back in it. It's probably what I'll end up buying if it doesn't drop.

>tried to war with an empire smaller than me in early-game
>despite matching them ship-for-ship and having a higher-ranked Admiral, they still wiped the floor with me
It's funny; back when the game first came out, it was missiles and Torpedoes that were seriously OP in the early game, while Kinetics were useless. Then they nerfed Torpedoes, and missiles became useless due to how missiles can't redirect if their target is destroyed. Kinetics got a slight buff, but were still on par with energy weapons.
Now, kinetics are pretty much the required starting weapon; starting with anything else is putting yourself at a disadvantage. So the weapons that started out being useless for anything but roleplaying are now the most overpowered.

I agree, and I'm glad they're useful, but the fact that Nuclear warheads specifically designed for ship-to-ship combat and literal laser weaponry are both inferior options.
Lasers I could understand, though their main problem at the moment is that they have a shorter range, take longer to fire, and suffer penalties against shields- which could be fixed simply by increasing their fire-rate to match that of kinetics, more accurately but at shorter ranges.
Missiles just need to be able to re-target if the missiles already fired are enough to kill the target.

Of course, the real reason I'm complaining is because I know how Paradox is most likely to "fix" this; simply nerfing Kinetics back into being useless again. That, or ignoring it and pretending everything's already balanced.

Isn't the main drawback of kinetic weaponry that it's just stupidly expensive to maintain and store? And missiles don't really do much to plating that's thick enough. Missile targeting was the thing that set it aside from rockets, wasn't it?

Space Engineers does this pretty well, as one of the best methods of doing damage to a ship is to have a two-stage rocket pierce an enemy vessel and then explode inside it.

>stupidly expensive to maintain and store
It's a matter of relativity. Maintenance costs for a kinetic-weapon slot and an energy-weapon slot are pretty similar, if I recall. Maybe lasers have lower maintenance costs so you can add more modules, but that doesn't really help in early-game when you don't really have modules to slap on them.
Missiles might not do much to plating, but nuclear missiles and the temperatures they create would likely cause the plating to go brittle and get blasted off by the next shot.
There aren't really "rockets" in-game; you can unlock torpedoes later, but they're thing is that they bypass shields.

Part of the problem is that the code for missile damage is really wonky- somebody ran some tests, and after a certain points the numbers started actually reversing from what they should have been- Damage dealt would reduce instead of increase, going over a certain threshold made the entire fleet suddenly get negative digits… Whatever algorithms the game is using for missiles, it seems to need some serious work.

I imagine there would be a stipend for switching, not to mention the much lower cost of upkeep on a tiny body. Since stomachs (and organs in general) exist in 3D space, your hunger would be reduced exponentially. At six inches, you would be 1/12 the height but your stomach would be 1/12 the height, 1/12 the depth, 1/12 the width, or 1/1728 the size. In other words, a $100 steak would run you just 5¢.

What their preferences are for snacks can be individualistic, yes. However, since they evolved on a planet that was sort of shifting into the Fold, their definition of "edible" is very broad.
In short, what they "like" to eat is individualistic, what they "can" eat is pretty broad.
One thing that might be interesting is what metals they like; since their carapace has to be space-proof, it would be some sort of metal-carbonate alloy, so maybe what type of metal they prefer can give their carapace a different sheen?

I don't really have a "bible" on this, and half of it is just making it up as I go.

I can definitely see it being quite useful though. At the end of the day, border range can be picked up later so unless you want to prevent someone from colonizing a system (Which you can do by building a frontier outpost), it's not necessarily a first pick. The research bonus perk is nice too, but the amount of research time you save by auto-researching all of the tile blocker techs is probably even more efficient.

I think mastery of nature may actually be one of the best early game picks for someone like you, given how you colonize a wide variety of planet types each with their own kinds of tile blockers. Maybe not as your first pick, but as a second pick at least.

The only way we can make a large game work is if we stop cheating so hard by doing nothing but rubbing each other's backs the entire game.

Personally I'd be totally down for a game where we play it a little more selfishly. Player alliances are still allowed, just no more space mega-NATO blob. If two players ally up, ideally that would mean two other players make their own separate alliance to protect themselves from the other alliance. After all, we never really allied up in Civ either and that was super fun still.

>Well, the lack of infusions whenever someone needs just that 500 minerals or energy might suck
I mean we traded resources in Civ as well. Trading stuff is just part of the game. Hell, a player with a powerful economy could invest in other players with weaker economies and create an ally that way. This kind of play will spice up the lategame a lot as well. That game we played last weekend wouldn't really be over yet if we reached that point.

Players shouldn't be too harsh though, just outright annexing another player's empire should be discouraged. Turning them into vassals is a way less destructive way of play. Diplomacy could be interesting that way as well, as a powerful player could demand tribute from a weaker player in exchange for a defensive pact for example.

Swatz and I used to play EU4 with other people using this whole mindset. We mentioned that one game where we started a massive world war in the 1600's before, but that whole situation only came into motion after a long cold war. Swatz and another player were both playing as German nations, both wanting to unite Germany into a single nation. I was fueling resources into Swatz while another dude was doing the same for the other German player. The military buildup got so out of hand that I had to keep conquering more land in order to fuel this horrific war machine we created. Eventually the war sparked and resulted in the deaths of literally millions. Like we're talking WW1 numbers of casualties, but 300 years too early.

It's probably my favorite gaming memory I have because of how grotesque it was. And it's exactly what I play Paradox games for.

>the Xenophobic FE
On the one hand, not having to deal with other little shits gave me time to get a good economy going so I can sustain whatever I'm building/upgrading.
On the other, that FE's positioning makes colonizing the worlds I was aiming for out of the question- and they've already Humiliated me for a Frontier Out post I'd built before I even knew they were there.
All in all, the good early game might have made it worth it, since I can expand around the other FE with little trouble. Of course, that can change if my borders expand just a little too far from pops; getting Humiliated again would be a hit I might couldn't come back from.

From the previous character sheet: "A Caucasian man of average height and weight wearing a stained beige jumpsuit and serviceable boots. Hair is short-cropped and charcoal in color. Eyes are gray-green"
He's probably clean-shaven for the moment (since you have to look good at a new job), but five-o'clock stubble probably isn't that foreign a sight on him. Generally speaking, he's the kind of "everyman" that you just sorta gloss over in a crowd.
In facial structure he'd probably be, on the scale of Franks, closer to Castle than Sinatra.

It might be better to ditch anything like a hard-numbers health system, since part of the point is throwing around absolutely wacky over-the-top shit that doesn't actually take out the other guy.
Case in point.
